Pandesal and Cinnamon Rolls From My Friend

A Filipina friend of mine gave me some of her home-made pandesal and cinnamon rolls yesterday. She is really a good cook and her pandesal taste so good. Here in the US especially in Texas, you can't find pandesal in the stores or bakeshops. I was so delighted when my friend called me and she told me that she will stopped by and give me some of the pandesal and cinnamon rolls that she baked. I told her before that my hubby love to eat pandesal and both of us have been craving for it. We ate some of the pandesal last night and we still have some left and I put it in the freezer. They were so good! It won't be long and we will be in the Philippines and we can eat freshly baked pandesal. I can't wait to be there.

Beautiful Foliage

This is my 6th Fall season here in the US and I'm still fascinated to see the foliage of the trees changed into different colors during this time of the year. The trees become so colorful before their leaves start to fall. I would be missing these kind of scenery when we go back to the Philippines. We have no Fall, Spring or Winter there. We only have 2 seasons, the dry and the wet season because Philippines is in the tropics. The photos below were taken when hubby and I went to Alvarado last Thanksgiving Day.

Black Friday Shopping

My hubby and I went shopping at Wal Mart last Black Friday. We didn't go until 10 AM though and most of the items on sale were already gone and sold out. We were able to buy just one Wrangler blue jeans for my hubby which was on sale for $8. We wanted to buy at least 3 pairs but there were only 2 left and the other 1 was not his size. They said that our economy is getting weak but the people rushed out to the stores to avail the discounted prices of the items on sale. The stores were full of shoppers. Nothing can stop people from shopping. The discounted prices had attracted lots of people to go shop in the stores as early as 4 AM. I didn't want to wake up early and fall in line in the store so we just went there late. I was able to buy a 4GB USB flash drive for my computer so I can store some of my files in it. It was on sale for only $9. We didn't have much to buy because those items on sale were almost gone.

Another Purse

My hubby and I went to Wal Mart this morning. We bought some groceries and also some yarns that I'm going to crochet to make another scarf and also to continue the bed spread that I'm crocheting. Then my hubby went to check out while I was busy looking at the bags, socks and jogging suits. I wanted to buy a pair of jogging suit but then I changed my mind. But I was able to buy me a pair of toe socks and a white purse. I've been wanting to have a white purse to match my white sandals and clothes. When I saw that the price of the purse was marked down more than 50% off, I grabbed the white purse and it's the last one of that style. I went to check out and after I paid, I found my hubby sitting near the entrance door waiting on me. I told him I bought a purse and he said, as if I needed one. He knows that I have a collection of purses but I told him I don't have a white purse yet. Purses and shoes are my weaknesses.

Stop Drinking Softdrinks

Please read this. An interesting piece of information.......

Have a look at the wrapper on a Coca-Cola 1.5 liter bottle and in the ingredients label you will find phosphoric acid in it. Minute quantities of ethylene glycol are also used (which is acknowledged in the soft drink world for making it really chill).

This is popularly known as anti-freeze which prevents water from
freezing at 0 deg C and instead drops it 4-5 degrees with minute
quantities. This chemical is a known slow poison in the caliber of
arsenic. So, if you manage to drink about 4 liters of Coke within
an hour or so, you can die.

Read along and give up these dangerous things. Be natural;
have flavored milks, tender coconuts, buttermilk, and plain water
instead of these "soft" drinks.

Guess what's the pH for soft drinks, e.g. Coke? PH 3.4! This acidity is strong enough to dissolve teeth and bones!

Our human body stops building bones at the age of about 30.
Soft drinks do not have any nutrition value (in terms of vitamins
&minerals). It is high in sugar content, carbonic acid, chemicals i.e. colorings etc. Some like to take cold soft drinks after each meal. Guess what's the impact? Our body needs an optimum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius for digestive enzyme functioning.

The temperature of cold soft drinks is very much below 37 degrees
or even close to 0 degrees Celsius. This will dilute the enzymes &
stress the digestive system. The food taken will not be digested.
In fact it will be fermented! The fermented food produces
gases, decays and becomes toxin, gets absorbed by the intestine,
circulates in the blood stream and is carried to the whole body. Hence toxin is accumulated in other parts of the body, developing into various diseases.

Think before you drink coke/Pepsi (or any soft drink) again.
Take water or juices instead. Have you ever thought what
you drink when you drink an aerated drink? You gulp down
carbon dioxide, when nobody in the world would advise you to
drink CO2.

Two months back, there was a competition at Delhi University
"Who could drink the most Coke?" The winner drank 8 bottles
and fainted on the spot-too much CO2 in the blood. Thereafter,
the principal banned all soft drinks from the college canteen!
While this might have been an extreme measure, their results
do provide some food for thought. Did you know that soft drinks
use chemicals in them that cause immense harm to you. Someone
put a broken tooth in a bottle of Pepsi and in 10 days it DISSOLVED!
Can you believe it? Teeth and bones are the only human parts
that stay intact for years after death.

Imagine what the drink must be doing to your soft intestines and
stomach lining!

Butter Vs. Margarine

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavorings.

DO YOU KNOW.. the difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.

Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine...

Very high in trans fatty acids.

Triple risk of coronary heart disease.
Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)

Increases the risk of cancers up to five times the normal risk.

Lowers quality of breast milk.

Decreases immune response.

Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing fact.... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC!!!

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

Try this test yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:

* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value ; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

Share This With Your Friends..... (If you want to 'butter them up')!

Chinese Proverb:
When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others.
