True Story
Posted by Lisa at Wednesday, July 27, 2011I love these touching Texas justice stories! You just gotta love and respect Texas women... The following is a TRUE STORY from the "THE HOUSTON CHRONICLE NEWSPAPER" in Houston, Texas
Last Thursday night around midnight, a woman from Houston, Texas was arrested, jailed and charged with manslaughter for shooting a man 6 times in the back as he was running away with her purse. ~
The following Monday morning, the woman was called in front of the arraignment Judge, sworn in and asked to explain her actions. The woman replied, "I was standing at the corner bus stop for about 15 minutes, waiting for the bus to take me home after work. I am a waitress at a local cafe. I was there alone, so I had my right hand on my pistol, that was in my purse, that was hung over my left shoulder. All of a sudden I was being spun around hard to my left. As I caught my balance, I saw a man running away from me with my purse. I looked down at my right hand and I saw that my fingers were wrapped tightly around my pistol. The next thing I remember is saying out loud, "No Way Punk! You're not stealing my pay check and tips." I raised my right hand, pointed my pistol at the man running away from me with my purse, and squeezed the trigger of my pistol 6 times!
When asked by the arraignment judge, "Why did you shoot the man 6 times? ~ The woman replied under oath, "Because, when I pulled the trigger the 7th time, it only went click."
The woman was acquitted of all charges. She was back at work at the cafe the next day!
Now that's Gun Control.... Texas Style ....!

Surprised!
Posted by Lisa at Tuesday, July 19, 2011Well, it's been a while since my last post here. It's so hard to find time to update all my blogs. I have a total of 6 blogs and I got lot of things to do beside writing posts so bear with me my dear readers. I will try to do my best to post here as often as I can.
Today I checked the page rank of this blog and I can't believe that it is now in PR2. I was really surprised! I have to check it twice to make sure and it's still the same result. I thank Mr. G for the increased PR though I don't update this blog regularly. PR come and go but I hope this will stay with me for a while so I will get more tasks in blogging.

10 Best Foods For Your Heart
Posted by Lisa at Tuesday, June 28, 2011Take good care of your heart. It's the only one you've got. Take heart with berries, beans, and other healthy fare. Here as some foods that are good for the heart.
Oatmeal
Start your day with a steaming bowl of oats, which are full of omega-3 fatty acids, folate, and potassium. This fiber-rich superfood can lower levels of LDL (or bad) cholesterol and help keep arteries clear.
Opt for coarse or steel-cut oats over instant varieties—which contain more fiber—and top your bowl off with a banana for another 4 grams of fiber.
Salmon
Super-rich in omega-3 fatty acids, salmon can effectively reduce blood pressure and keep clotting at bay. Aim for two servings per week, which may reduce your risk of dying of a heart attack by up to one-third.
"Salmon contains the carotenoid astaxanthin, which is a very powerful antioxidant," says cardiologist Stephen T. Sinatra, MD, the author of Lower Your Blood Pressure In Eight Weeks. But be sure to choose wild salmon over farm-raised fish, which can be packed with insecticides, pesticides, and heavy metals.
Not a fan of salmon? Other oily fish like mackerel, tuna, herring, and sardines will give your heart the same boost.
Avocado
Add a bit of avocado to a sandwich or spinach salad to up the amount of heart-healthy fats in your diet. Packed with monounsaturated fat, avocados can help lower LDL levels while raising the amount of HDL cholesterol in your body.
"Avocados are awesome," says Dr. Sinatra. "They allow for the absorption of other carotenoids—especially beta-carotene and lycopene—which are essential for heart health."
Olive oil
Full of monounsaturated fats, olive oil lowers bad LDL cholesterol and reduces your risk of developing heart disease.
Results from the Seven Countries Study, which looked at cardiovascular disease incidences across the globe, showed that while men in Crete had a predisposition for high cholesterol levels, relatively few died of heart disease because their diet focused on heart-healthy fats found in olive oil. Look for extra-virgin or virgin varieties—they're the least processed—and use them instead of butter when cooking.
Nuts
Walnuts are full of omega-3 fatty acids and, along with almonds and macadamia nuts, are loaded with mono- and polyunsaturated fat. Plus, nuts increase fiber in the diet, says Dr. Sinatra. "And like olive oil, they are a great source of healthy fat."
Berries
Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries—whatever berry you like best—are full of anti-inflammatories, which reduce your risk of heart disease and cancer.
"Blackberries and blueberries are especially great," says Sinatra. "But all berries are great for your vascular health."
Legumes
Fill up on fiber with lentils, chickpeas, and black and kidney beans. They're packed with omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, and soluble fiber.
Spinach
Spinach can help keep your ticker in top shape thanks to its stores of lutein, folate, potassium, and fiber.
But upping your servings of any veggies is sure to give your heart a boost. The Physicians' Health Study examined more than 15,000 men without heart disease for a period of 12 years. Those who ate at least two-and-a-half servings of vegetables each day cut their risk of heart disease by about 25%, compared with those who didn't eat the veggies. Each additional serving reduced risk by another 17%.
Flaxseed
Full of fiber and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, a little sprinkling of flaxseed can go a long way for your heart. Top a bowl of oatmeal or whole-grain cereal with a smidgen of ground flaxseed for the ultimate heart-healthy breakfast.
Soy
Soy may lower cholesterol, and since it is low in saturated fat, it's still a great source of lean protein in a heart-healthy diet.
Look for natural sources of soy, like edamame, tempeh, or organic silken tofu. And soy milk is a great addition to a bowl of oatmeal or whole-grain cereal. But watch the amount of salt in your soy: some processed varieties like soy dogs can contain added sodium, which boosts blood pressure.
Everyone knows that it is beans.
"Beans, beans, good for the heart.
The more you eat, the more you fart
The more you fart, the better you feel
So eat more beans for every meal."

The Window From Which We Look
Posted by Lisa at Tuesday, June 21, 2011I got countless forwarded e-mails in my inbox and I hardly read them. I just choose what I want to read and the rest stayed unread until this time but this one really caught my attention. This is pretty humbling. Read on....
A young couple moves into a new neighborhood. The next morning while they are eating breakfast, the young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside. "That laundry is not very clean", she said. "She doesn't know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap."Her husband looked on, but remained silent.
Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, the young woman would make the same comments. About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband: "Look, she has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this."
The husband said, "I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows."
And so it is with life. What we see when watching others depends on the purity of the window through which we look.

Christian Song
Posted by Lisa at Saturday, June 18, 2011I first heard this song over the Christian radio I've been listening to many years ago. I enjoyed listening to the lyrics and the melody was so easy to learn. I got the lyrics and learned the song. Then I taught it to the youth in our church and we sang it during our worship service.
Isang Silip sa Langit
Ptr. Rolly Cayabyab
Sa langit walang lumpo
Doon walang nakakalbo
Mga ngipin ay kumpleto
Good bye na sa pustiso
Sa langit walang bulag
Walang matang nanlalabo
Mga pipi’t, mga bingi
Lahat ay gagaling kay Kristo
Walang pulubi sa langit
Doon walang magkakasakit
Wala na ring magugutom
Lahat tayo’y titira sa mansion
Wala ng graft & corruption
Wala na rin ang polusyon
Doon walang libingan
Buhay ay walang hanggan
Sa langit walang krimen
Good bye na sa kidnapping
Wala na ring mga sugal
Good bye na pati sa jueteng
Sa langit walang brown-out
Walang baha, wala ng lahar
Ginituan ang lansangan
Doon tayo mamasyal
Doon walang nagagalit
Doon wala ng masungit
Doon walang naiinggit
Punung-puno doon ng pag-ibig
In heaven there is no fear
The Prince of Peace is there
Kung nais mo sa langit
Kay Hesus ka kumapit (2x)

Holy Week Vacation
Posted by Lisa at Saturday, April 23, 2011Hubby and I just came home from a 3 days vacation for the holy week. We spent it in the city of pines. We went there with my 2 nephews and their dad and 3 girls who are our relatives. It's refreshing to be in a cool place and my hubby enjoyed the cool weather there. He walked 2 to 3 times a day there. I also had to take the girls around the city because it was their first time to got there. Yesterday I took them to the public market and we bought some fish, veggies and fruits. This morning we took them to Burnham Park then we headed to Camp John Hay for a picnic. We celebrated my nephew's birthday there. We enjoyed the foods, so yummy were the pancit, spaghetti, roasted chicken, lumpia, doughnuts, cake, bananas and some chips and drinks. We had lots of picture taking then we headed to the park and the boys played tennis. After that he headed home and then went back to the lowland.

Childbirth at 65
Posted by Lisa at Wednesday, February 02, 2011From time to time, I share here those forwarded e-mails that made me laugh. I received quite a few everyday but I just chose to read those interesting or funny ones. Here's one of them.
With all the new technology regarding fertility recently, a 65-year-old friend of mine was able to give birth. When she was discharged from the hospital and went home, I went to visit.
'May I see the new baby?' I asked
'Not yet,' she said 'I'll make coffee and we can visit for a while first.'
Thirty minutes had passed and I asked, 'May I see the new baby now?'
'No, not yet,' she said.
After another few minutes had elapsed, I asked again, 'May I see the baby now?'
'Nooooo, not yet,' replied my friend.
Growing very impatient, I asked, 'Well, when can I see the baby?'
'WHEN HE CRIES!' she told me.
'WHEN HE CRIES?' I demanded. 'Why do I have to wait until he cries?
'BECAUSE...... I FORGOT WHERE I PUT HIM..... OKAY?!!'

Crowded Park
Posted by Lisa at Saturday, December 25, 2010We went to Burnham Park this afternoon with hubby, my sis-in-law, her baby and my cousin Mylyn. We were surprised to see a bunch of people there. That park was crowded with people and it was so hard to walk in a crowded place like that. We planned to walk and roam around but we changed our minds when saw the people there. We just took some photos, and when we saw a vacant bench, we sat down and just gazed at the pond where many people were boating. Hubby sat down and he just watched people passing by. Others were just sitting there and having a picnic. When a kid came to sing a carol song and asked for money and an old woman came to ask money, we decided to leave. We proceeded to the store where Mylyn bought a pair of blue jeans and a sandal. After that we waited for a taxi and went home.

Rainy Days
Posted by Lisa at Sunday, October 17, 2010It's a rainy morning here in our place. According to the news, it's typhoon signal #2 and so my 2 nephews and their helper have no classes today. Yap, it's Monday, first day of the week but no classes. I bet the kids love it but the people who lives in the place where the center of the typhoon hits are so worried right now. Most haven't recovered yet from the devastating effect of the typhoon and flood last year and here comes another one. Lord, please stop the typhoon and spare the people from calamity. I praise your name Lord and thank you for answering my prayer.

Herbal Remedy
Posted by Lisa at Thursday, September 02, 2010My sister is fighting the big C right now. She has lost a lot weight, weak and no appetite to eat. Just looking at her breaks my heart. It's been a few months that she's sick and she had been hospitalized a few times. She stopped taking medications because of the side effects but she's been taking some herbal teas and nutritional supplements. I had just read that papaya is a potent cure for cancer. I tried to boil some leaves and the taste is not good. I gave some to my sister but she just sipped a little. I also gave a glass to hubby but he said the taste make him puke. Now my bro-in-law made a herbal recipe for my sis. He got the recipe from one of his church members. It's a mixture of garlic, ginger, honey, lemon and apple cider vinegar. He used a blender to mix it and it tastes better than the papaya extract. I am also taking it now. I hope and pray it will work for my sis.

The Husband Store
Posted by Lisa at Wednesday, September 01, 2010In New York City, there is a six-floor building called ‘The Husband Store’.
Women are invited to shop there.
Categories of husbands are separated by floors. There is only one rule that the women shoppers must obey: As you go up each floor, you no longer can return to a lower floor to choose there instead. If you go to the sixth floor, you can never shop at the lower floors again.
So a woman shopper enters the building, reads the rules, and decides this is for her.
She enters the first floor, and is informed the room is full of attentive, moderately attractive men, all her age. She likes what she sees, but decides to find out what is on the second floor.
Upon entering, the room is full of attentive men of her age, who also have good jobs and are responsible citizens. This please her, but she is curious about what else may be available, so she goes to the third floor.
Once there, she learns the room is full of attentive men who have good jobs, are good citizens, and are attractive. This, too, is good, but she is eager to see what else there is.
On the fourth floor, the room is full of attentive men who like children, have good jobs, and are drop-dead gorgeous. This is appealing, but still, she decides to try the fifth floor.
At the fifth floor, it is full of attentive men who have good jobs, like children, are drop-dead gorgeous, and are not only romantically inclined, they hunger to devote themselves completely to just that one special woman.
This is too good to be true, she says to herself, but still…....so she goes on up to the sixth floor.
At the entry, she reads an electronic sign, saying “Congratulations! You are the 3,127,948th consecutive woman to enter this floor. There are no men here….But: this proves that you, like every other woman, are IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE.”

Goodbye Friendster, Hello Facebook
Posted by Lisa at Sunday, June 20, 2010I have been facebooking since December 2008. Prior to this, I've been so engrossed in Friendster but I got so disappointed with it because each time I changed the background of my profile and put some buttons or some cute graphics in it, Friendster will change or alter their codes and as a result, the codes I put in my profile won't work no more. It really made me mad. Imagine after all the hard work and time I spent in updating my profile's background, then suddenly it won't work. That's totally disgusting. So when I learned about Facebook, I signed up and posted some of my photos there. Then not long after that, most if not all of my Friendster friends signed up in Facebook too. I also signed up for hubby's FB so both of us are facebooking now. I seldom open my Friendster since I signed up in FB. That's what Friendster got after all those code alterations they did. Most people transferred to FB. So goodbye FS, Hello FB. Serve them right huh!

A Quarter
Posted by Lisa at Saturday, June 12, 2010Several years ago, a preacher from out-of-state accepted a call to a church in Houston , Texas . Some weeks after he arrived, he had an occasion to ride the bus from his home to the downtown area. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him a quarter too much change. As he considered what to do, he thought to
himself, 'You'd better give the quarter back. It would be wrong to keep it.' Then he thought, 'Oh, forget it, it's only a quarter. Who would worry about this little amount? Anyway, the bus company gets too much fare; they will never miss it. Accept it as a 'gift from God' and keep quiet.'
When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, and then he handed the quarter to the driver and said, 'Here, you gave me too much change ...'
The driver, with a smile, replied, 'Aren't you the new preacher in town?'
'Yes' he replied.
'Well, I have been thinking a lot lately about going somewhere to worship. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change. I'll see you at church on Sunday.'
When the preacher stepped off of the bus, he literally grabbed the nearest light pole, held on, and said, 'Oh God, I almost sold your Son for a quarter.'
Our lives are the only Bible some people will ever read. This is a really scary example of how much people watch us as Christians, and will put us to the test! Always be on guard -- and remember -- You carry the name of Christ on your shoulders when you call yourself 'Christian.'
Watch your thoughts ; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Watched A Movie
Posted by Lisa at Friday, April 02, 2010It's Holy Week and my hubby and I decided to spend the weekend in the city of pines. We came up here yesterday with my sister and her family. We will be here until Monday and while we are here, we will have to enjoy the cool weather. By the way, we watched the movie last night entitled Left Behind. It's a story about the end times and what will happen after the rapture. The movie was based on a best selling novel with the same title. I was not really satisfied with the movie especially the ending. I think it's "bitin" unlike the movie I have watched many years ago which really had shown what will happen during the tribulation. I just forgot the title of that movie and I wish I can remember it so I can find it in the stores. It will be a good movie for our film showing ministry.

A Car For Us
Posted by Lisa at Thursday, April 01, 2010We finally found a car which is affordable and within our budget. Hubby and I really need one so we can go anywhere we want to go without borrowing my sister's van. We've been borrowing theirs for a year and we kept postponing to buy our own because of low budget. But last week, my hubby had run into a tree while backing up and it created a dent and scratch in my sister's van. I know what happened was an accident but I was upset thinking how much we gonna spend to have the dent removed. So I spent hours in the internet looking for economy cars for sale. I found one and we bought it last Tuesday. We had to changed the 2 tires though and now it runs smoothly. I thank God for giving us the car that we need and we pray that we can use it for many years to come.
